A UNIQUE DISCOVERY

Single Cask Rum from Cuba is incredibly hard to find so we were very pleased (and surprised) to have sourced Cask number #2617 from the Ron Cubay distillery known as "The Pearl of Cuban Rums" it is located in Villa Clara in the heart of Cuba.

A symbol of Cuban rum excellence, combining tradition, quality, and cultural significance. Distilled in a Column still from Cuban Molasses, then placed into an American white oak cask for 6 years tropical ageing in Cuba until November 2016, before being shipped to the UK, where it was re-casked into a different American Oak ex-bourbon cask and continentally aged for a further 10 years.

This single cask bottling from 2026 yielded just 253 bottles capturing the essence and passion of traditional rum making in Cuba.

RICH AND COMPELLING

Nose: An inviting nose of vanilla fudge, dark toffee and warming pepper spice.

Palate: Naturally sweet in Character, there are multiple layers of citrus fruits, maybe even apple and chocolate. Toasted oak and soft tobacco unfold across the palate, delivering depth and balance with a smooth, rounded mouthfeel.

Finish: The finish is long and lingering, leaving waves of sweet vanilla, gentle spice and mellow oak

DISTILLERY

Ron Cubay distillery is rooted in the island’s long cane-growing heritage, copper stills, and patient aging. Rums were first produced in 1964 after the Cuban Revolution specifically to meet the taste of the Cuban people. The name evokes a sense of place and pride, positioning the product as an accessible expression of Cuban rum craftsmanship. The distillery draws on regional sugarcane and water sources to create its base distillate. Production emphasizes traditional methods: fermentation, careful distillation, and aging in oak casks to build aroma, body, and balance.

Copper-pot and column distillation help shape the character of the spirit, with batches blended to achieve a consistent profile. The blending philosophy centers on transparency and consistency: younger rums deliver brightness and vigor, while older lots provide depth and smoothness. The resulting profiles typically exhibit a nuanced sweetness, light spice, vanilla, tropical fruit, and subtle toasted wood.
